Welcome to our web site and thank you for your interest in "Foundations of hope."
May you be blessed as you consider partnering with us in our God-given
vision to serve the people of Namibia.
Dennis and Lori Vail
What we are about: There are countless people in places throughout the world who are in dire need of help and those needs create limitless opportunities to reach beyond ourselves and serve others.
As individuals we are not asked to change the world but God does place within us a desire to do our part, to touch hearts and lives, to create positive change. We have made several short-term mission trips to Namibia, Africa over the past several years. It is a country whose people have captured our hearts and it is there that we have been called to touch lives in a tangible way.
The ravages of HIV/AIDS, TB and abject poverty we have experienced in Namibia are not easily forgotten. The visions of orphans roaming the streets and the cardboard and tin shanties known as "home" are reminders of what we leave behind each time we return home. The smiling eyes, the heartwarming hugs and the endearing friendships fuel our passion to come along side of those in need.
The plight of those we know in Namibia will not likely change nor can new hope be birthed unless we step out and act on that which has been placed upon our hearts. We desire to put genuine caring into action by meeting the practical needs of others to create positive change in lives and communities. And so the "Foundations of Hope" was created.
What We Plan To Do: Our initial goal is to build 20 simple 2 and 3 bedroom brick homes complete with plumbing and electricity. Local labor and materials will be used to support the local economy.
Who We Will Be Helping: Our primary focus is to build homes for Christian families who have made a commitment to foster orphans and who are invested in improving their community.
Our secondary focus is to build homes for those who are living in difficult conditions and who have taken on the added burden of caring for others who are in even greater need. This project will adopt the "sweat equity" philosophy of Habitat for Humanity. Families selected to participate will be required to take an active roll in the construction of their own home as well as assisting in the building of one of their neighbor's "Foundations of Hope" homes. Our desire is to foster a sense of responsibility, self respect and community among the recipient families.
What Is In Place: We have committed to move to Namibia for a year to oversee this project. We have met with government officials, building material suppliers and leaders of local support ministries. We have approvals and arrangements in place to begin the "Foundations of Hope" project once the monies are raised. We are currently engaged in the fund raising process.
What We Will Leave: All of the "Foundations of Hope" homes will be used perpetually for housing orphans and their new families, providing hope and shelter for years to come. Our hope is also to develop a new sense of "community" which encourages respectful attitudes and compassionate giving hearts toward one's neighbors.
How you can get in Involved: Contribute financially: Sponsor a complete or partial home (plumbing, electrical, windows, etc.), assist with equipment and/or labor costs.( Approx. cost of land, materials and labor for one home is $9,000.00)
Contribute personally: Be part of a 2 - 3 week outreach team to Namibia to help in the building of homes or associated projects.
